Paul has asked me to write a little bit about myself. I mentioned to my children that I would be penning something about me and they became very excited.

Both would be super impressed to be included in my bio. So, here goes! Ivy is my daughter, she is nine and arty. She’s very innovative and is great at making things.

Theo is my son and he’s seven and is big into his sport. He’s brilliant at tennis and loves football (his favourite player is Ronaldo). I hope my ‘shout out’ for both of them will earn me extra brownie points when they read all of this!

As a busy working Mum, I don’t really have the time to do too many hobbies as my family means everything to me. And, like so many parents, our focus is on trying to create happy memories for the kids. Seeing their faces when we went to Disneyland Paris is a magical set of moments that I will always treasure.

We enjoy travelling and have even been on a Safari to the mountainous areas of Turkey!

I like to get to the gym as and when I can, so I can do some weight training. I used to enjoy Thai boxing and it’s great that Ivy and Theo have taken an interest in kick boxing too. As you can tell, the family has a big focus on the children. Filling their time makes me happy!

We also have a one year old dog Bonnie, which is the softest creature you could ever hope to meet.

At this point, I think I should switch gears and head into ‘business mode’ as I’m sure Paul will want me to write something about my role – and how we can help you to do what you want to do with your finances.

Well, my background is predominately in payroll. I successfully qualified with AAT in Accounting at level 2 and quickly found myself working for a business in Ivybridge.

With payroll, you have to be able to juggle a lot of things. You’re working to tight deadlines all the time and you need to process a colossal amount of information.

Precision is everything and you have to be able to deliver accuracy and ensure you’re adhering to all regulations, whilst being able to explain the more complex aspects of the job in a simple and understandable way.

My role isn’t just about monetary figures and logging hours worked. It’s also to have a strong and deep understanding of the legal aspects of the job. In other words: National Insurance contributions, maternity and paternity pay, benefits in kind and tax.

It’s a complex area which people often assume is very easy to navigate and that’s where mistakes can quickly be made.

In short, my work means I ensure that PAYE is not only delivered in a timely fashion but in a way which HMRC recognises to be legitimate.

And, of course, I’m here to help to ensure you get your tax return correctly presented. It means I get to chat through everything with you so that we can check that all of your transactions are clearly visible.

An increasing number of people are turning to software packages to help them process their accounts. There’s nothing wrong with using all available tools when you’re working your way through the figures.

That is, of course, if no mistakes are made when you do so.

It’s something which people get wrong all the time but working with someone who has the qualifications to get it right is crucial for your success.

My training taught me how to be adept when going through ledgers and double entry book keeping, where transactions are recorded in two accounts: one which covers debits and one which covers credits.

Advertisements for software packages make it look easy to use but they can be technically tricky to operate when working in the real world.

And that’s where having a chat with myself, Paul and the team here can make all the difference for you, as we can readily spot the hidden hazards which lurk under the surface and which can affect the well oiled running of your business.

In short, I am part of a business which is here to help you navigate your business towards calm, buoyant and successful waters.
